Lashed to the Keyboard

There's an acronym buzzing about writer's blogs: WIP. For those who don't know, it means Work In Progress and generally refers to a half-written novel. However, If you did already know that, the chances are you've long since noticed that there's a silent H in WIP. I was certainly aware of it today – six hours at the keyboard wrestling with an over-complex plot, or six of the best? What's the difference?

But at least I'm writing again, at least I'm back in the saddle. But isn't it supposed to be me with the whip?

  1. Hey, glad you're writing! Personally, I don't think it's been a good day if I'm not feeling a little John Wayne about the derriere! But (no pun intended) I only get to give the writing a real lashing at the weekend.

I figure it must be good if it's causing you pain! You could probably have churned out tosh in no time, so the fact that it took six hours means it must be quality?!

FWIW, BTW, V. well done with your WIP!

  3. I like the silent H bit. I think of it more as the silent S&M. Special emphasis on the M.

It took me a while to figure out the WIP thing too.

  4. Thanks, Anita. I have just left a comment on your blog. It's very brave of you to present your first chapter in public like that.

Anyone reading this who would like to help Anita with a little constructive criticism, or just read an intriguing extract from something interesting, should consider a quick trip to Anita's blog.

And thanks Terry. I'm more M&S (popular UK retailer, famous for its sensible underwear) than S&M, but maybe they sell hair shirts.

  5. Good for you. Stephen King says writing is all about getting your butt in the chair. I know if I write everyday eventually I arrive at something worth reading. :)
